Sport

We are proud at Prees Primary School of our record of participation in a wide variety of sports.  The  acquisition of our own minibus means that we can continue to transport the children to a wide range of activities.  These include football, swimming, tennis, tag rugby, rounders, among others.

PE & Sport: Sports Grant Funding from the DfE

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for PE and sport in schools.  This funding is to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.  We received £8,640 during 2014/15 and £8,500 this financial year.

Each school is free to determine how best to use their funding.  Please see below for how we have spent ours and the impact this funding has had :

School games Basketball
The basketball team played in the next round of the School Games at Sir John Talbots, Whitchurch. The team won all their games and showed excellent teamwork and they will represent North Shropshire at the School Games on 7th March at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury.

six children from KS2 ran in the next round of the School Games Cross Country at Lakelands School, Ellesmere.

The U11’s team played in the John Hatfield Village Schools Trophy at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury.

Game went to penalties which Prees won 2-1 with goals from Daniel and James and brilliant saves from Fred
Player of the Match The whole team, Special mention to Fred for saving penalties.
The team now go to the Greenhous Meadow on May 6th to play in the final.

District Football Team
Four boys attended trials for the Shrewsbury District Football Team and Daniel and Kyle were both successful.
Well done boys.

This term Year 3 and 4 have been receiving Kwik Cricket training from James Wodja from Chance to Shine.
Year 12 have been receiving Football Skills Training from Jenna from the FA Skills team and learnt lots of new skills.

KS2 Girls Football Festival 
The girls from KS2 took part in a girls football festival at Thomas Adams, Wem and everyone had a good time playing alongside other local primary schools.

Indoor Kwik Cricket
Two teams took part in a Kwik Cricket Competition at Sir John Talbots. The A team won the competition beating Whitchurch in the final and the B team came 4th.

Year 1&2, Year 3&4 competed against other local primary schools doing a floor and vault routine. Both teams won with the high scorers being Nadja, Esmea, Voilet, Finaly, Cici and Cassie

A team of under 9’s boys played in the U9’s County Cup at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury. Thw whole played really well against strong teams.

ESFA U11’s Small Schools Trophy 

The U11’s football team played in the ESFA Small Schools Trophy. The team beat Much Wenlock 1-0,
Minsterley 1-0. They then played Trinity in the semi final beating them 1-0 then faced Newtown in the final, it was a very close game with the games ending up 0-0 so it went to penalties with Daniel first scoring hten Fred saved 6 penalties from Newtown with James stepping up to score the deciding penalty. The team will now go on to represent Shropshire next year. The whole team played really well and deserved the win.

Ben represented Prees school in a Sportsability competition at The Sports Village, Shrewsbury. Ben played really well and finished 2nd in the Archery.

Dance Festival Thomas Adams
Year 3&4 took part in a dance festival at Thomas Adams with other primary schools. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to the Young Dance Leaders at Thomas Aadmas who were fab.

KS2 Girls Football Festival
Thirty girls from KS2 took part in a Girls Football Festival at Thomas Adams, Wem. The girls were mixed with girls from other primary schools and in the morning they were taught skills and drills from the young leaders from Thomas Adams and in the afternoon they played in a Euro Tournament in their year groups with the team winners being Rhian, Naomi, Felicity, Ellie-May, Cici and Chloe. W. The girls had a great day and learnt new skills.

U10’s Boys Futsal
The boys played in the u10’s Futsal at the Sports Village. The whole team played well against large schools. The team drew two games and lost two games. Well done

The girls played in the U10’s Futsal at the Sports Village and played really well winning their group with a dramatic penalty shoot out with Sadie being the star goalkeeper and the reaching the final where unfortunately they lost but the whole team played so well and should be really proud of themselves.

U11’s Girls Small Schools Trophy
The girls football team played in the semi finals of the U11’s Girls Football Trophy on a very cold afternoon at the Sports Village. The girls played well drawing three games and losing one, they finished third overall but played well against tough opposition. Well done

A team of Year 5&6 boys took part in indoor Kwik Cricket at Walford College. The boys all played really well and finished 2nd out of eight schools and lost out in a very close final. Well done everyone

G and Kieran all scoring and then Fred saved the last Condover penalty which took the team through to the finals on May 7th at the Greenhous Meadow. Well done to all the team

Girls U10’s County Cup
The girls football team played in the U10’s County Cup on a very chilly afternoon. The girls played five games which was made harder by having no subs. All the girls played brilliantly against very tough opposition and finished 3rd in competition which was a brilliant result.

Clive Cross Country
18 children gave up their Saturday morning to represent Prees Primary at Clive Primary School Cross Country. All the children ran really well over a very tough up hill course with Natasha. G finishing 3rd,
Prue finishing 3rd, Kieran finishing 4th and Millie finishing 5th with the school finishing 2nd overall out of eight school. Well done to all the runners.

School Games Winter Games
Nine children from Prees Primary represented North Shropshire in Cross Country and Gymnastics at the School Games. The games were opened by Francis and his dance partner, Francis then competed in the Gymnastics team who consisted of Evie, Madison, Finlay and Amelia. The team finished 4th overall which was a brilliant achievement. All the runners ran really well and everyone had a great day.

KS2 Dance Festival
Thirty children from KS2 took part in dance festival at Thomas Adams, Wem. The children were taught a dance routine by Thomas Adams young leaders and then performed the dance at the end of the morning. All the children thoroughly enjoyed their morning.

Ten children from KS2 competed in the School Games Qualifying Cross County. Everybody ran really well and Cici, Natasha. G, Daniel, Jack. G and Kieran all qualified to represent North Shropshire at The Winter School Games in March. Well done

School Games Sportsability
Ben represented Prees Primary in the School Games Sportsability and took part in a wide variety of sports and the team he was in finished second. Well done Ben who gave up his own time in the half term to compete.

Five children from Year 3 & 4 competed against other primary schools performing three routines.
All the children performed extremely well and the team won the competition and have qualified to represent North Shropshire at the school games in March. A huge thank you to Mrs Noss for all her help and support

FA Girls Football Week 5th October.

As part of Girls Football Wekk, girls form KS2 took part in a training session and played small sided games to encourage more girls into playing football.

Inter House Cross Country 9.10.15

The whole school took part in an Inter House Cross Country Competition on the school field. All the children ran really well. A huge thanks to the House Captains and Vice Captains for all their help and also to all the children who were hares, especially Kieran whowas a hare for most of the year groups.

Cross Country Competition 19.10.15

Thirty two children from KS2 took part in a Cross Country Competition at Thomas Adams, Wem, competing against seven other local primary schools. The girls and boys team came 2nd overall and the school came 2nd overall in the competition. We had lots of children in the top ten in their age groups.

  • Year 3 – Cici 2nd, Emma 4th, Imogen 9th, Finlay 5th and Matthew 10th
  • Year 4 – Natasha 4th, Ben Hares 8th and Fred 9th
  • Year 5 – Prue 2nd, Sadie 4th, Eve 5th, Rhian 7th, Daniel 2nd, Jack 3rd, James 4th and Kyle 9th.
  • Year 6 Zoe 6th, Millie 8th and Kieran 2nd.

Well done to all the runners.

Basket Ball Tournament  5.11.15

Two teams from Year 5 & 6 played in a Basket Ball Tournament at Thomas Adams, Wem. Both teams played really well against other local primary school. Prees A won the tournament and Prees B came 3rd which were fantastic results. Well done to all the players who played really well.

Tag Rugby Tournament 16.11.15

Two teams form KS2 played in a Tag Rugby Tournament at Thomas Adams, Wem. Both teams played really well against other local primary schools. Prees A won the tournament after not losing any games and with Christo scoring an try in extra time in the last game. Both teams played really well. Prees B finished 4th which was a great result. Well done to all the players.
