We are proud at Prees Primary School of our record of participation in a wide variety of sports. The acquisition of our own minibus means that we can continue to transport the children to a wide range of activities. These include football, swimming, tennis, tag rugby, rounders, among others.
PE & Sport: Sports Grant Funding from the DfE
In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for PE and sport in schools. This funding is to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. We received £8,640 during 2014/15 and £8,500 this financial year.
Each school is free to determine how best to use their funding. Please see below for how we have spent ours and the impact this funding has had :
2017 – 2018
The year, Prees will receive £15626.
Our plans are in place to ensure we:
- Develop the roles of Sports leaders.
- Continue to offer a varied range of before and after school clubs.
- Participated in a wide range of festivals and competitions.
- Continue to track pupil’s progress in this aspect of the curriculum.
- Continued provision of dedicated sports coaches for football.
- Lunchtime sports provision.
- Continue to improve the variety of extra curricular activities to encourage greater involvement form more children.
- Continue to promote healthy living throughout the curriculum and involvement in relevant activities such as cooking.
- Begin the Daily Mile for all children as part of the curriculum.
- The impact of the use of the P.E. Premium will be assessed in a report at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.

School games Basketball
The basketball team played in the next round of the School Games at Sir John Talbots, Whitchurch. The team won all their games and showed excellent teamwork and they will represent North Shropshire at the School Games on 7th March at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury.

six children from KS2 ran in the next round of the School Games Cross Country at Lakelands School, Ellesmere.

The U11’s team played in the John Hatfield Village Schools Trophy at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury.

Game went to penalties which Prees won 2-1 with goals from Daniel and James and brilliant saves from Fred

The team now go to the Greenhous Meadow on May 6th to play in the final.
District Football Team
Four boys attended trials for the Shrewsbury District Football Team and Daniel and Kyle were both successful.
Well done boys.
This term Year 3 and 4 have been receiving Kwik Cricket training from James Wodja from Chance to Shine.
Year 12 have been receiving Football Skills Training from Jenna from the FA Skills team and learnt lots of new skills.

The u11’s Football team played in the Boys U11’s Small Schools Shield on March 8th at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury.

The girls from KS2 took part in a girls football festival at Thomas Adams, Wem and everyone had a good time playing alongside other local primary schools.

Two teams took part in a Kwik Cricket Competition at Sir John Talbots. The A team won the competition beating Whitchurch in the final and the B team came 4th.

Year 1&2, Year 3&4 competed against other local primary schools doing a floor and vault routine. Both teams won with the high scorers being Nadja, Esmea, Voilet, Finaly, Cici and Cassie

Two teams played in a Basketball competition at Thomas Adams, Wem . The A team came 1st and the B team came 4th, The A team have qualified to the next round of school games competition.

U9’s Boys County Cup
A team of under 9’s boys played in the U9’s County Cup at the Sports Village, Shrewsbury. Thw whole played really well against strong teams.

ESFA U11’s Small Schools Trophy
The U11’s football team played in the ESFA Small Schools Trophy. The team beat Much Wenlock 1-0,
Minsterley 1-0. They then played Trinity in the semi final beating them 1-0 then faced Newtown in the final, it was a very close game with the games ending up 0-0 so it went to penalties with Daniel first scoring hten Fred saved 6 penalties from Newtown with James stepping up to score the deciding penalty. The team will now go on to represent Shropshire next year. The whole team played really well and deserved the win.

Ben represented Prees school in a Sportsability competition at The Sports Village, Shrewsbury. Ben played really well and finished 2nd in the Archery.

Dance Festival Thomas Adams
Year 3&4 took part in a dance festival at Thomas Adams with other primary schools. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to the Young Dance Leaders at Thomas Aadmas who were fab.
